You may have noticed that crystals are becoming a lot more mainstream lately, which has its pros and cons. For instance, you can now find crystals at places like Home Goods, or even crystal water bottles at Nordstrom, which was not the case a few years ago!
As a Certified Crystal Healer, I find this both exciting AND concerning.
Exciting because it means that people are becoming more open to the idea that crystals are more than just a rock! But concerning, because while I think people are more open now, they aren’t yet educated about crystals and the powerful tools that they are. And as someone who educates about crystal energy and how to use crystals, I feel like it’s something I need to discuss so that you can be more aware and empowered when working with crystals.
Crystals are super powerful tools that can assist you in shifting energy, releasing old emotions, trauma, etc… as well as raising your vibrational frequency. And while the “raising your vibe” thing is what most people talk about, most people aren’t aware that crystals also help facilitate the releasing process. Essentially, as crystals raise your vibrational frequency, they stir up and activate an energetic detox of emotions, anxiety, old memories, etc.
And a lot of people aren’t ready for that (yet).
So while you may buy a crystal to raise your vibe, you need to also be aware that in the beginning, you may feel a rollercoaster of emotions as things bubble to the surface to release. In order to raise your vibration higher, you need to let go of your low vibration baggage, so to speak. And if you have a lot of things to process, you’ll want it to happen in a way that isn’t too uncomfortable, right? Which means that you need to be conscious of how you are working with crystals, so that it is an enjoyable process.
Otherwise, if you aren’t aware of how to work with crystals, you might be feeling a bit of “whiplash” from the emotional rollercoaster of jumping all in with a new crystal.
Think about it this way… before you start a journey to the top of a 15,000-foot mountain (compare this to raising your vibration), you start out slow so that you can acclimate to the higher elevations, right? It’s a process. You know that if you go from sea level to 15,000-feet in the same day, then you’re likely going to have some issues adjusting to the high altitude, and potentially not feel well from the huge adjustment – tired, headaches, woozy, dehydrated…
It can be the same when working with crystals, especially ones that tend to vibrate at higher frequencies (like quartz, Lemurian, Herkimer diamonds, apophyllite). How your energy responds and experiences a crystal’s energy will be unique to you, based on where you are in your life right now, how you process energy, and what your body-mind-soul has stored from the past.
Here’s how you can navigate working with crystals, so that you aren’t experiencing any uncomfortable side effects:
Start working with only one new crystal at a time, especially if you are new to crystals. This allows you to determine how your mind-body-soul is adjusting to that crystal’s energy.
Start slow with this crystal… this will vary per person. Perhaps it means that you only spend 5-10 minutes with a crystal the first day, and slowly increase the amount of time each day. Or if you are more experienced with crystals, this may mean an hour the first day. Use your intuition as guidance - only you will know what’s appropriate for you.
Keep a journal of your experiences with the crystal each day. How you felt when working with the crystal, what thoughts or memories surfaced, etc.
Drink a lot of water, because working with crystals is a form of energy work. Drinking water helps our physical and emotional bodies process this energy work more efficiently, just like with any other type of detox.
Stay grounded… Perhaps this is with a grounding crystal, connecting with the earth’s energies through a meditation, exercising to connect with your body, etc. By staying grounded, it helps keep you from shifting too fast.
Listen to your intuition. If a certain crystal makes you feel uncomfortable, set it aside and come back to it later. Most likely, it’s helping your subconscious access something that needs to be released/healed, so gauge if you’re ready right now, or if you’ll process it another time.
